Outreach Staff Went Mobile for Youth

When the COVID-19 pandemic found roots in the Omaha community, Youth Emergency Services stepped up. Each week, hundreds of homeless and near-homeless youth use the resources available at our Street Outreach Center – food pantry, health services, laundry, shower, counseling, etc. – but with COVID, we couldn’t have youth congregating in usual numbers without risking their safety. So, in order to continue providing these services, we went mobile – starting a Mobile Pantry Service. Starting in late March, we made weekly trips to the youth WHERE THEY ARE to bring them needed supplies, etc. We continued to hold shorter but regular hours for youth to use the services at Street Outreach – by appointment or in small numbers – but the Mobile Pantry took our regular services to new levels.
