Reconnecting Our Seniors with Critical Services

Action at the YMCA looks like responding to community needs and meeting our members where they are. Socially isolated seniors with limited incomes have faced food insecurities in a significant way due to the pandemic. This photo was taken at the YMCA Healthy Living Center when packages of free 30 pound Farmers to Families Food Boxes were delivered for redistribution to seniors in need.
One of the members shared, “This place has saved me, both mentally and physically. I was not in a good place with Covid-19 and the quarantine made it even worse. I am on a limited income. I decided to start coming to the YMCA and applied for a scholarship. I’ve made friends, the staff are so supportive and I feel stronger and healthier. It feels like home here. You are truly saving people.” – YMCA Senior Member
Reconnecting our seniors to critical services like fitness, recreation, swimming, social clubs, community resources, volunteer opportunities and fellowship has been essential in our Covid-19 response. Donations to the YMCA through United Way’s Day of Action create affordable experiences for a community that needs connection now more than ever!
