Meals Seasoned with Love

Every day, Emma and Sara, Resident Services Coordinators at Crestview Village in Omaha, help fight food insecurity felt by so many Mercy Housing Midwest (MHMW) residents. In this photo, they are putting together meal kits to deliver to residents over the holidays. Due to COVID, the community meals many depend on were not available and so the kits were filled with all the essentials to feed an entire family. Emma and Sara were excited to provide these extra holiday goodies and show residents just how much they mean to them.

These meals are available through the onsite food pantry program that is offered to residents at no charge and helps eliminate barriers to food access. Families simply sign up for a time slot to “shop” for supplemental food and personal hygiene items in the pantry when needed. For many it is the difference between having a meal or going without.

With an increase in demand due to COVID, continuing to keep the pantry stocked has been difficult. Although Emma and Sara are up for the challenge, the support from community partners and donors is essential to keep it open. Being able to provide this onsite is crucial to the families we serve and central to the work we do at MHMW.
