$136,815 Raised: THANK YOU!
Thank you for ACTING today to STRENGTHEN tomorrow.
Special thanks to our Day of Action sponsors Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska, Facebook, FNBO, KMTV and Omaha World-Herald!
Thank you to the 352 donors who supported United Way partners on the frontlines of COVID-19 on Day of Action!
As a community convener and collaborator, United Way of the Midlands created Day of Action to give community members the opportunity to support local United Way partners on the frontlines of COVID-19 that have been struggling to meet increased needs in our community.
Approximately 50 percent of local nonprofits have experienced volunteer and staff shortages and 75% reported budgetary implications related to strains on the economy.
That’s why your gift means so much. Through these dark times, we have learned that our greatest strength is our spirit of community. We’ve seen time and time again when we help one another, our community grows stronger. We are incredibly honored to host this opportunity for everyone to come together in support of our trusted United Way partners. Thank you!
Because of YOU, local families in need will have Basic Needs, Education and Financial Stability support to get back on their feet.
Families like Marcia’s.
Marcia was looking forward to retiring from her 32-year teaching career when her daughter-in-law passed away from COVID, leaving behind three children who needed her. After funeral costs and taking in her grandkids, the bills piled up and she could no longer afford her home. “When I came to Stephen Center, I found…a bed and delicious meals, I got help with medical needs I had been neglecting, and staff are helping me find an affordable home. My youngest granddaughter’s name is Hope, and that is what I found at the Stephen Center! To all who give to Stephen Center, I say – You have overwhelmed me! Thank you for caring about me and my family.” – Marcia is served by our partner Stephen Center.
Students like Natalie.
Little Sister Natalie and Big Sister RosAnna each lost someone close to them due to COVID-19. Through tears and mourning, the support they provide for one another has helped them through such a difficult moment in life. “This has brought us closer because we can talk about our loss and grieve together.” To celebrate their fifth anniversary, Big Sister RosAnna made Little Sister Natalie a scrapbook of their favorite moments together, featured above. – Natalie is served by our partner Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Midlands.
Community leaders like Fanny.
When Fanny’s family experienced job loss due to COVID-19, she knew they weren’t the only ones struggling to put food on the table. So she took the initiative to ensure 20+ other families were also connected to food assistance. Now she’s a neighborhood outreach worker who identifies needs in her community. But Fanny wouldn’t have the skills she needed to make her neighborhood stronger without ESL or leadership classes. Her story reminds us that the most important resource disinvested neighborhoods need is local leaders who are equipped to support their neighborhood. – Fanny is served by our partner inCOMMON.
Thank you for making our community stronger!
We want to extend a special thank you to our amazing agency partners who have been doing more with less during the pandemic and finding creative solutions to serving our community. We also want to thank our Day of Action presenting sponsor, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska, our supporting sponsors Facebook and FNBO and our media sponsors KMTV and Omaha World-Herald for all of their support, which enabled 100% of your gift to go back to the agency of your choice.
Thank you as well to Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska for making a $10,000 lead gift that was dispersed across all participating organizations, and to Cox Communications for their lead gift to the 211 Helpline which will help connect people in need to vital resources, 24/7.
